Our Approach

Century Property Developments considers itself a true ambassador of our amazing country with its diverse cultures. Our campaigns are centered on family values, as wholesome living sets the tone for Century Property Developments’ uniquely South African lifestyle estates. The design of houses throughout all of Century’s lifestyle estates is driven by the South African climate and lifestyle. We pride ourselves on our particular architectural brand, inspired by historic farm-style architecture unique to Southern Africa.

At Century Property Developments, we firmly believe that every South African has the right to peace of mind when it comes to the safety and security of their homes and their families. All of Century Property Developments’ lifestyle estates are designed to provide a sense of personal freedom and expression while maintaining tight security measures for each and every resident designed to provide a sense of personal freedom and expression while maintaining tight security measures for each and every resident and their families. Security is managed at the highest level, with state-of-the-art CCTV and access control systems, supported by highly trained and motivated manpower.

We also believe that a strong synergy needs to be established between landscaping and architecture. An aesthetics committee protects the integrity of each estate, and strongly encourages the use of materials in their natural state only. These materials are raw stone, exposed brick, plaster, glass, wood and steel. Paints are often limited to cement finishes and colours may only be earth tones. Investors in any of Century Property Developments’ estates have a major role to play in making their houses and environment more sustainable. Through incorporating awareness of environmentally sustainable design principles and expressing such preferences to their architect, designers and builders can bring about significant change across the industry. A house built according to our sustainable housing guidelines will have a 40% lower carbon footprint than the average residential house in Gauteng.

Our Indigenous Landscaping Policy

Century Property Developments understands the value of responsible landscaping. We have a strict policy of planting only indigenous nectar- and berry-bearing species, we expect to attract and feed birds throughout the year. Consideration has been given to evergreen or deciduous, fast-growing or slow-growing, flowers, fruits and foliage. With our indigenous landscaping policy, we hope to reinforce the uniquely South African nature of our estates, not to mention benefiting from the numerous additional advantages like attracting indigenous birdlife, frost resistance and well adapted to our highveld climate and most importantly indigenous trees and shrubs need only 10% of the water that exotic species use.

Century Property Developments has set aside 60 hectares of valuable land in Riversands, where seeds indigenous to Southern Africa are propagated and planted out as seedlings, and then replanted to Century’s various developments. Last year, the Century nursery has cultivated over 400,000 indigenous plants and trees. This is in addition to the more than one million indigenous trees already propagated and planted in its current developments. This nursery employs 30 people who are responsible for the propagation of some 50,000 trees and plants a month.

Century is also engaged in a tree project to promote awareness in the rural environments. This initiative has been implemented in a number of Diepsloot schools. Each child receives a pack containing seeds, bags and compost. They are then taught how to germinate and grow their seeds – nurturing them until they are small trees. Once these trees reach a certain size (roughly 25cm), they are ‘bought’ back by Century in exchange for school equipment, art equipment and other needed items

Our Awards

Over the course of the last two decades, Century Property Developments has shone on the international platforms, when it comes to awards and accolades. It has verified our belief that our products are well planned and executed. The one award where we enjoyed the most acclaim is the International Property Awards. It started with Waterfall Hills Retirement Estate where we won the “Best International Retirement Development” in 2011. At the same event, Century Property Developments were accredited for “The Best Development Marketing” in South Africa, as well as “The Best Residential Estate” in Africa for Waterfall Equestrian Estate. It is important to note that this was the first time ever that any company from South Africa has ever won such a high accolade in these awards. At the time, Mark Corbett (CEO of Century Property Developments) commented that: “we are truly honoured to receive these accolades. This is our first year of entering the Europe & Africa Property Awards, and winning in all five of the categories we entered is a wonderful achievement! We pride ourselves on our uniquely South African approach, and I reckon that it was the combination of environmentally friendly principles and aesthetically pleasing architecture that won the day for us.”

The following years, our focus shifted from entering individual categories, to rather focus on the grand prize: “Best Mixed-Use Development in the World” for Waterfall Estates. It was It was important to team up with other key role players, like Waterfall Management Company to qualify for this accolade. Fantastic results were achieved as Waterfall Estates won this specific category, in Africa, for five consecutive years! Every year, entries were judged by a panel of professionals whose collective knowledge of the property industry is second to none. Century Property Developments, in collaboration with Waterfall Management Company, continues to enjoy success on an annual basis at The International Property Awards.

A Nedbank “Young Lion” is described as a person that displays the qualities of performance and productivity that raise above all expectations to reach unique levels of achievement. During the 2010 Nedbank Property Professional Awards, the panel of honorary judges and trustees could think of no better person that display these qualities, other than Mark Corbett.

Waterfall Equestrian Estate has won a total of 7 of the CMA (Concrete Manufacturers Association) Masonry Awards for Excellence, with two being in the Premier category two years in a row – the first such achievement by any property developer in history. Our awards within the local industry continues to this day, with several ‘Hot-dip Galvanizing Awards’ under our belt.

Back in 2011 Century Property Developments competed against 1,000 international competitors to walk away with the prestigious Globals 2011 for “The World’s Best Retirement Resort”. Mark Corbett says the award for best retirement resort in the world is a major coup for a South African developer, not to mention what it means for South Africa. “This category is intended to differentiate retirement ‘resorts’ from typical retirement villages and old age homes. The judges were particularly impressed by the focus on customized, bespoke homes, and the quality of amenities available to residents”.

Recently in 2022, Century Property Developments was also awarded the EDGE Champion 2022 by the IFC (International Finance Corporation),  demonstrating our commitment to green building standards, and international green building systems.
